Day 1: Addis Ababa – Jimma (By Flight) – Chebera Churchura National Park
Begin your journey with a morning domestic flight from Addis Ababa to Jimma, a historic town in southwestern Ethiopia. Upon arrival, meet your local guide and driver, then proceed on a scenic drive through lush coffee-growing highlands and Oromo villages toward Chebera Churchura National Park (approx. 5–6 hours by 4WD). Arrive at the park in the late afternoon. After check-in at a local eco-lodge or tented camp, take a short nature walk to spot birds and primates. Overnight near the park.
Day 2: Full-Day Safari in Chebera Churchura National Park
Enjoy a full day of wildlife exploration in Chebera Churchura, one of Ethiopia’s richest biodiversity areas and a renowned elephant sanctuary. Track African elephants, buffaloes, baboons, warthogs, and possibly leopards, while birdwatchers can spot rare species like the White-cheeked Turaco and Abyssinian ground hornbill. Explore savannah woodlands, rivers, and dense forests with a knowledgeable park scout. In the afternoon, visit the Shoshima Hot Springs or one of the waterfalls within the park. Return to camp for overnight.
Day 3: Nature Walk – Cultural Encounter – Return to Jimma
After breakfast, take a guided morning hike along one of the park’s eco-trails to spot black-and-white colobus monkeys and rich flora. Later, drive back to Jimma, stopping en route for photos and a visit to a local Kafficho or Dawro village, where you’ll gain insights into southwest Ethiopia’s diverse culture. Arrive in Jimma by late afternoon. If time allows, visit the Jimma Museum or the Palace of King Abba Jifar II. Overnight in Jimma.
Day 4: Jimma – Addis Ababa (By Flight)
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, then transfer to Jimma Airport for your return flight to Addis Ababa.
