Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa
Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel for check-in. Depending on your arrival time, you may take a short city tour or rest in preparation for your cultural adventure.
Day 2: Addis Ababa – Jinka (By Flight)
Take a domestic flight to Jinka, the gateway to the Omo Valley. Upon arrival, visit the Ari Village, one of the most hospitable and culturally rich communities in the region. Discover traditional crafts such as pottery making, goldsmithing, and local food preparation, including how to make Ethiopia’s staple dish, injera. The lush natural surroundings of the Ari people provide a scenic introduction to tribal Ethiopia. Overnight in Jinka.
Day 3: Jinka – Benna – Omorate – Turmi
Begin your journey deep into the Omo Valley by visiting the Benna and Mursi tribes. If lucky, witness vibrant tribal markets in Key Afer en route. After lunch in Turmi, continue south to Omorate and cross the Omo River by traditional canoe to meet the Dassanech tribe, known for their body art and unique lifestyle. Return to Turmi for overnight.
Day 4: Turmi – Karo – Hamer – Turmi
Drive west through breathtaking landscapes to visit the Karo tribe, famed for their elaborate body painting and scenic villages overlooking the Omo River. After lunch in Turmi, visit the Hamer village in the late afternoon to experience traditional life, herding practices, and possibly the famous bull-jumping ceremony if available. Overnight in Turmi.
Day 5: Turmi – Konso
After a relaxed morning, travel to the Konso Highlands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the Konso Cultural Village, famous for its intricate stone terraces, wooden statues (wagas), and vibrant traditions. Visit the nearby “New York” Gorge, a dramatic erosion landscape. Overnight in Konso.
Day 6: Konso – Arba Minch
Depart Konso and head to Arba Minch, enjoying views of lush farmland and the mountainous scenery along the way. Just before reaching the city, embark on a boat trip on Lake Chamo, where you’ll encounter large crocodiles, hippos, and diverse aquatic birds. In the afternoon, visit the Dorze village, perched at 2,400 meters, where you’ll explore their famous beehive-shaped huts, weaving traditions, and panoramic views. Return to Arba Minch for overnight.
Day 7: Arba Minch – Hawassa
In the morning, explore Nech Sar National Park, home to “Forty Springs,” wildlife, and scenic walking trails through lush jungle. After lunch, drive to Hawassa, stopping in Wolayta Sodo for local coffee experiences. Upon arrival, enjoy a boat trip on Lake Hawassa, spotting hippos, monkeys, and colorful birds. Overnight in Hawassa.
Day 8: Hawassa – Addis Ababa
Visit the lively Hawassa Fish Market early in the morning, then drive back to Addis Ababa. On the way, stop at Abijatta-Shalla National Park, known for its flamingos, ostriches, and twin crater lakes. Enjoy lunch in Ziway by the lake, then continue to Addis Ababa. In the evening, you may enjoy a farewell dinner or traditional Ethiopian cultural show.
